I’m delighted to announce that we have finalised a foundational academic paper and posted this to a preprint server – just in time for the New Year!

Though we have written extensively and presented at many an academic conference we have not put this into one detailed paper outlining the full rationale.

This includes a full analysis of over 50+ other needs models including all of the famous ones and plenty of other lesser known.

As usual when researching and writing this I discovered some gems in the research – my favourites were two related pieces on the taxonomy of human motives:

One by Chulef et al. in 2001

Chulef, A. S., Read, S. J., and Walsh, D. A. (2001). A hierarchical taxonomy of human goals. Motiv. Emot. 25, 191–232. doi:10.1023/A:1012225223418.

And an extension of this by Talevich et al. in 2017

Talevich, J. R., Read, S. J., Walsh, D. A., Iyer, R., and Chopra, G. (2017). Toward a comprehensive taxonomy of human motives. PLoS One. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0172279.
